Lip Augmentation

The appearance and look of the narrow edged and thin lips are improved by lip augmentation. Lip augmentation is a sort of cosmetic surgery that is performed to increase the fullness of the lips through enlargement. Fuller and plumper lips are the outcome of this cosmetic surgery. It also removes fine wrinkles from around the lips.

In the procedure of lip augmentation, lips are injected with fat or collagen that are transferred from other parts of the body. The layer of fat on the thin layer of lip tissue thickens the lips with fullness. The lips absorb both fat and liquid collagens a few days after the surgery. Treatments are required on the basis of repetition to reap the ultimate results.

Different Lip Implants

Autologen - Autologen is a dermal implant material that the lips are injected with to increase their thickness. This dermal material is collected from the skin of the patient under the treatment.

Dermalogen - Dermalogen is Human Tissue Matrix (HTM) that is procured from the tissue of other parts of the donor's body. This material also is injectable.

Fascia - Fascia is an injectable donor tissue. This tissue to inject the thin lips is collected from white dense connective tissue, which supports the body structure. Fascia is used in the surgical treatment of lips.

HylaForm - HylaForm is a crystal like injectable gel. This medical gel contains Hyaluronic acid that is similar to what is naturally found in the different parts of the body.

Restylane - Restylane also is a crystal like injectable gel. One of its components is Hyaluronic acid that possesses the dimension of what is naturally found in the body.

Radiance - Radiance is Calcium Hydroxylapatite. This is used in increasing the fullness of the thin lips.

Benefits

Lip augmentation has several benefits. The best advantage of this surgical procedure is that patients can return to the normal walk of life right after the execution of the surgery. Lip augmentation includes both surgical and non-surgical procedures. Non-surgical procedure entails no risks or complications even it surgical procedure involves some. The type of surgery depends on the texture and pattern of the lips of the patients. The period of recovery is short in case of lip augmentation.

Risks And Complications

Fat grafting is an effective method of maintaining a softer and fuller lip. But this surgical method is not absolutely free from risks or complications. Over fullness of the lips gives a comic touch to the look of the face. Some injections of the lips are aggressive and these can cause lumpiness while some result in ridges. Swelling of the lips can last for several days.

Some patients badly react to the different procedures of lip augmentation. Some injections contain animal byproducts. So the patients who suffer from allergic risks of this surgery should take some preventive measures before undergoing the treatment. Patients with severe hypertension, herpes simplex lesions, facial complications or nerve disorders had better to avoid lip augmentation.

Recovery

Keep your suture line or incisions clean after the surgery. The application of ordinary lotions, creams or gels on the place of incisions may cause inflammation. A greenish, yellowish or whitish oozing with a mild stingy odor from incision spot is an infection. Report immediately to the doctor if you develop such an infection. You should not indulge in stressful or strenuous activities for two to three weeks. You may experience some minor complications such as stiffness, numbness, burning or prickling sensations. These will subside within a few weeks.
