Laser Facial Resurfacing
Laser skin resurfacing is used to remove the wrinkled or damaged layers from the surface of the skin. This is much sought after procedure to wipe out delicate lines from the facial skin around the eyes and the mouth. Laser facial resurfacing is executed in specific areas of the face or on the entire face. This facial treatment is performed in combination with an eyelid surgery or a facelift.
The medical procedure replaces the outer damaged layers of the face with the inner healthy layers. Laser skin resurfacing vaporizes the external cells and tightens the inner collagen with an erbium or CO2 laser to remove the uppermost layer of the facial skin.
Kind of People Who Benefit from
Laser Treatment
Women and men of all age groups can benefit from laser
skin resurfacing. The patients who opt for this facial
treatment should be healthy, non-oily skin and fair.
It is a recommended treatment for persons with black,
brown or lime skin for pigmentation change. It is advisable
for persons with signs of aging or marks of damage in
their facial skin to undergo the treatment.
It also removes the wrinkles that are caused by ultraviolet
rays of the sun from the surface of the face. Laser
skin resurfacing softens the frown lines and grooves
on the face to smoothen and rejuvenate the facial skin.
Patients after the treatment achieve an exterior with
appealing appearance and luminous look.
Procedure
The laser vaporizes the surface layer of the facial skin to smoothen it. Then, the outer damaged layer is removed. The laser arouses the inner layers to form new collagen. The newly formed collagen reduces wrinkles and improves skin texture. The use of Erbium laser is safe for the skin. As it is cold, it does not threat the inner layers with heat damage. Therefore, Erbium laser is preferred to the CO2 laser as it is likely to cause heat damage.
Risks
Laser skin resurfacing involves some risks. Risks develop not in all cases. People with prior physical complication are likely to suffer from side effects of the treatment. Some of them are as follows:
– |
Facial redness |
– |
Permanent pigmentation change |
– |
Viral or bacterial infection |
– |
Scarring |
– |
Risks of anesthesia |
Patients with dark or olive skin are at more risk of having hyper-pigmentation after the treatment. Patients who take Accutane for rough skin should wait minimum twelve months before going for laser treatment.
Recovery
For five or six days, the skin may bleed a little and
redness may be persistent after the laser treatment.
Exposure to the sun should be absolutely avoided at
the postoperative stage. Antibiotics are required to
keep the new skin safe from viral and bacterial attacks.
The skin should be kept moist to ease healing. The recovery
period lasts for one to two weeks.
