Breast implant exchange is a minor surgery. A few women undergo this secondary
surgery in case; the first breast implants prove ineffective. Other women
opt for the operation to exchange silicone-gel breast implants for saline-filled
breast implants and vice versa. Moreover, there are many other reasons
that make it necessary for them to go for an implant exchange.
Breast asymmetry and aging breast implant are among the factors that determine the occurrence of breast implant exchange. It is common for women to replace the older implants with new ones. Some women go for the exchange to have their breasts beautified with properly shaped outline. These women have their breasts endowed with a natural look by doing away with the ball like appearance of previous breast implants. It is not uncommon that some women prefer the ball like shape to the natural appearance of the breasts.
A surgery is concerned with two issues - postoperative discomfort and recovery process. Breast implant exchange is no exception to it. However, patients relatively recover soon from breast implant exchanges and with least discomfort. Patients have experienced much pain due to having their chest muscles stretched during the previous breast augmentations. Therefore, the implant exchange surgery is comparatively painless and involves a fast recovery process.
Procedure
The surgery is performed through a way-in incision. The incision is made in the scar tissue capsule or layer of the breast implant to remove the older breast implants. Largeness of the capsule pocket helps the new implants get accommodated. The pockets are supplied with the new breast implants. Then, the incision is closed with stitches and dressed with sterile bandage. The only pain patients feel during the surgery is due to the incision of the skin. Women experience relatively much pain when the secondary breast implant is performed to do away with the scar-related tissue problems from the first breast implants. These implant exchanges involve the techniques of plastic surgery.
Recovery
The recovery period and process for patients having undergone breast implant
exchanges differ from those for patients having undergone the previous
breast-enhancing surgery. The secondary breast augmentation involves much
less pain. So the recovery is fast and short. Patients recover and return
to normal activities in two or three days after the surgery.
