The end of the upper eyelid Blepharoplasty is the improvement of the peripheral vision. Puffy deposits of muscle and fat, excess skin and skin with wrinkles inhibit the clear opening of the eyes. The lower eyelid Blepharoplasty is performed to reduce the deposit of muscle and fat over the eyes and tan the skin around the eyes.
Procedure of Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty is executed through incisions. Surgeons make incisions along the skin lines of both the upper and lower eyelids. Incisions are made below the creases of the upper eyelids and the lashes of the lower eyelids. The execution of the operation takes 1 to 3 hours.
Upper Lid Blepharoplasty
It takes almost one and a half hours to execute the upper eyelid Blepharoplasty. The surgeon outlines the excess skin hanging over the upper eyelid and then, injects the skin with an anesthetic. An anesthesiologist administers medication to the patient in order to make him or her drowsy during the operation procedure. The surgeon excises the excess skin and removes the excess fat. Then the surgeon places the sutures on the upper eyelid and removes them after four or five days.
Lower Lid Blepharoplasty
Lower lid Blepharoplasty is performed to remove the excess fat from the lower eyelid through the tissues that are soft. The surgeon makes an incision just underneath the eyelashes to remove the excess fat. Then, the surgeon places the sutures on the eyelid and removes them after four to five days. Generally, patients recover and return to activity after the removal of the sutures.
Risks And Complications
The skin quality and structure of the upper and lower eyelids, the adjacent soft and bonny tissue and patients' age affect the outcomes from the functional and cosmetic procedures of the Blepharoplasty. Factors, which are responsible for the development of complications after the surgery are the following:
Preexisting dry eyes - The formation of natural tear may be disrupted after the surgery and it leaves the eyes dry and dull.
Laxity of the lower lid edge - Looseness of the edge of the lower eyelid leads to malposition of the eyelid.
Malar complex - Malar complex leads to malposition of the eyelids.
