Some Facts About Bariatric Surgery

There are at least twenty to thirty types of Bariatric surgeries, which have developed in the last fifty years to make people lose weight with long-term effects. Gastric bypass is one such Bariatric operation. These Bariatric operations are safe and effective. These procedures of obesity treatment decrease weight by decreasing the intake of calories. Patients lose weight by 65% to 70% by these means. Patients who undergo a Bariatric surgery procedure need to take vitamin supplements like calcium, iron and B12 in order to compensate for calorie deficiencies after surgery.

Gastric Bypass

Appetite is an urge that is no less important than any other human urges. Regulation but not repression of this urge is an axe to hammer down weight. Gastric bypass helps reduce appetite by regulating it. There is a strong association between intestines and stomach and the brain in various ways. These are both hormonal and neurological. Overfilling the stomach with foodstuffs stretches the stomach and makes you feel always full and satisfied. The complete satisfaction of appetite leads to obesity.

Gastric bypass is a sort of Bariatric surgery that reduces the intensity of association between the brain, stomach and intestines. This lessens your appetite and thus makes you eat less than before. Individuals who have undergone this treatment for obesity experience less appetite and feel satisfied on taking food in smaller quantities. You can undergo laparoscopic bariatric surgery or open bariatric surgery and complete recovery is possible within 2 to 6 weeks depending on the type of work you do, type of operation and your condition.

Gastric Banding

Gastric banding is another Bariatric operation for losing weight. The other term that is commonly used for gastric banding is lap band. This is much popular as an effective means of obesity treatment in U.S. A lap band is a flexible band and it is made of silicone. It is tied around the stomach in the upper portion. Adjustability of the band has made it a helpful device. Filling the band with fluid can loosen and tighten it. Tying the band around the abdomen decreases the volume of the stomach to some extent that in turn, reduces appetite. Reduced appetite reduces the intake of food and in turn, leads to weight loss.
