Angiography
Angiography is a medical imaging technique. In Angiography,
an X-ray image of vital organs and blood vessels of
the body is taken. Angiography is usually performed
to examine the health of the heart, lungs, stomach,
kidneys, arteries and veins of the body. Arteriography
is another medical term for Angiography.
Coronary Angiography
Coronary Angiography is a common type of Angiography.
The flow of blood in the coronary arteries is visualized
in coronary Angiography. The use of catheter is made
to conduct the X-ray agent to the part of the body that
is to be visualized. Catheter is a long, flexible, thin
tube. The catheter is inserted into an artery of the
forearm or groin. X-ray images of the blood that flows
in the coronary arteries make the artery openings visualized.
Peripheral Angiography
Another common and frequently performed type of Angiography
is peripheral Angiography. It is executed to identity
the narrowing vessels in patients who are affected with
leg cramp or claudication or reduced flow of blood to
the feet. This is also known as Femoral Angiography.
Superselective Angiography
In this procedure of Angiography, a catheter is passed
through the arteries to select and examine the blood
vessels at several body sites.
Other angiographic imaging tests include macular degeneration,
magnetic Angiography, computed tomography and diabetic
retinopathy.
Benefits
Angiography ensures the necessity of a surgery. It is
done to see and ensure the development of disease in
the vital organs of the body. The procedure of treating
a diseased organ is determined on the basis of the result
of Angiography. In case, the state of a diseased organ
is normal, the patients can avoid undergoing a surgery
and go for medicines.
Catheter Angiography gives an accurate, detailed and
vivid image of the blood vessels. It is very helpful
in case of a surgical procedure and percutaneous intervention.
The angiographic sort of X-ray imagining test is safe and sound for health of the body. After examination it leaves no radiation inside the body of a patient. In Angiography, it is possible to combine diagnosis with treatment in a single procedure.
Risks
Even if, Angiography is safe, it is likely to develop
some risks or complications. There is a slight possibility
of cancer from X-ray radiation in Angiography. If you
have a complaint of allergic reaction to X-ray imaging
test with contrast material, you need to take some special
medication for twenty-four hours before undergoing a
catheter Angiography.
In case of persons who are affected with kidney disease
or diabetes, Angiography may injure their kidneys when
the contrast material is removed through the urine.
Angiography involves a little possibility of blood clotting
around the edge of the catheter. As a result, it blocks
the artery and vessels through which the catheter is
passed. Nursing mothers should resume breast feed their
children twenty-four hours after a contrast material
injection. Call 832-858-2096 now.
